Wait and see...

Musings about tea...

In Germany, we have a saying: "Abwarten und Tee trinken", which means something like "Wait and see, and in the meanwhile, have a tea".

I like to have a cuppa.
How about you?

If you drink a lot of tea, what does your cupboard look like?

As space is limited in our kitchen, I store my tea in a cabinet (and, yes, the few things to brew some coffee, too).

Let me see, what have I got here?

Mate, yes. It's all Viggo's fault. I had tried roast Mate some time ago, and didn't like it. Then I saw him sip that stuff and thought, that I had never tried green Mate. Thanks, Mr Mortensen, that was a good idea. I still like it, although I think it tastes like grass clippings.

Green tea. Yes, yes, yes. I do need that to get awake in the morning. No, I'm not a morning person. My first cup simply has to be green tea. Then, I can go on with Earl Grey. And, no, I already liked that before I knew that I share this passion with Captain Picard ;-)

Actually, the box labelled "Earl Grey" no longer contains any of that tea. It is re-used for tea that doesn't come in bags, like some very yummy green tea with dried sunflower petals or fruit tea (one particularly delicate one made of dried fruit normally used for red fruit jelly ("Rode Grode").

In the last few months, I discovered some kinds of tea with nice names and simply had to try them. They're labelled like "Get some strength" (herb tea). "Hot Love", "Sweet Kiss", Pure Lust" and "Little Sin" are all harmless and deliscious fruit teas. They all come in bags, which is a pity, because I'd rather like to have nicely decorated tin boxes.

And, yes, the cup on the right reads "Cafe"...

Did you know, that when you go to a cafe or restaurant in Germany and order a tea, you usually get a glass of hot water and one tea bag and maybe a slice of lemon and sugar cubes.
Can you tell how pleased I was one evening while I was in Iceland, when I was really cold and wanted some hot tea and I was offered a big wooden box with many different kinds of tea bags to chose from. And sugar. And honey. And milk. And a hot water refill.
Which really reanimated me ;-)

Acutally, I do drink coffee too.
In the morning, it get's me started when I go to the office.
At night, when I know I will stay up late, e.g. when I watch the Oscars with my friends.
But I'm not altogether that into coffee, although I appreciate it being celebrated. I heard that it's very delicious if you brew the coffee with nutmeg or cinnamon. I'd like to try that, too, rather than adding some flavouring syrup.
